Our Favorite Seasonal Wedding Flowers (and Why Local Matters More Than You Think)
When it comes to wedding flowers, seasonality changes everything. Not just how your flowers look, but how they feel, how they hold up throughout the day, and how far your budget can go.
We always guide our couples toward what’s naturally in season because it creates designs that feel effortless, elevated, and really intentional. Nothing feels forced or overworked. And when we can source those flowers locally, it makes an even bigger difference behind the scenes.
Here’s a closer look at some of our favorite wedding flowers by season and why we love designing with them.
Spring Weddings
Spring weddings have such a soft, romantic feel without needing much effort. The color palettes lean light and airy, and the flowers naturally have a lot of movement.
Some of our favorites for spring weddings are ranunculus, tulips, hellebores, sweet peas, lilac, bridal veil, and peonies.
Ranunculus are one of our go to bridal bouquet flowers. They have that layered, delicate texture that photographs beautifully and works with almost any style.
Tulips are perfect for couples who want something that feels a little more natural and less structured. They continue to open throughout the day, which gives arrangements a really organic shape.
Sweet peas and hellebores add that soft, slightly whimsical texture that makes everything feel a little more elevated without being too much.
Lilac and bridal veil have branchy stems that immediately make any design feel organic and natural.
Peonies are our most requested wedding floral and for good reason. They come in a range of colors, smell heavenly, and elevate any piece you add them to.
Everything already feels cohesive. The tones are soft, the shapes are natural, and the overall look comes together without needing to overdesign anything. It’s perfect for garden style weddings or anything romantic and timeless.
Summer Weddings
Summer weddings give you the most flexibility. Whether you want something colorful and bold or neutral and minimal, there’s a lot to work with.
We love using dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, lisianthus, and scabiosa for summer designs.
Dahlias are usually a focal point in late summer bouquets. They come in so many varieties and can either feel really soft and romantic or more structured depending on the type.
Cosmos are one of our favorites for adding movement. They give that light, airy look that so many of our brides are drawn to right now.
Zinnias can bring in color in a way that still feels elevated when used intentionally. They’re great for adding a little personality without overwhelming the design.
Lisianthus is one of those flowers that works everywhere. It softens arrangements and holds up really well in the heat, which is a big plus for summer weddings.
Summer weddings mean you have options. A lot of them. It allows us to really tailor your flowers to your vision while still keeping everything cohesive and in season.
Fall Weddings
Fall weddings tend to feel a little richer and more grounded. This is where we start to bring in deeper tones, more texture, and a bit more contrast.
Some of our favorites include dahlias, chrysanthemums, marigolds, amaranthus, and asters.
Dahlias continue into fall and are still one of the best focal flowers this time of year.
Chrysanthemums add fullness and texture in a way that feels really elevated compared to what people typically expect.
Amaranthus is one of our favorite additions for fall installations and bouquets. It adds movement and a slightly dramatic shape that works really well for ceremony pieces or statement arrangements.
Marigolds bring in those warm tones that instantly make everything feel seasonal without being overly themed.
Fall florals create depth. The color palettes feel intentional and layered, and the added texture makes everything look more dimensional, especially in photos.
Winter Weddings
Winter weddings are a little more minimal, but that’s what makes them so beautiful. Designs feel clean, intentional, and elevated.
We love working with anemones, winter berries, hellebore, paperwhites, and evergreens during the winter months.
Anemones are a standout for winter weddings. That contrast between the dark center and lighter petals creates a really clean, modern look.
Winter berries are the perfect splash of red for the holiday season and their branchy stems create and unique and natural look.
Evergreens add structure and brings in a natural winter element without needing a lot of extra detail.
Paperwhites and hellebore add a softer layer that keeps everything from feeling too stark.
Why winter works so well for weddings
With fewer varieties available, every flower is chosen more intentionally. It creates a more refined, elevated overall design.
Why We Prioritize Local Flowers for Weddings
Choosing seasonal flowers is important, but sourcing locally when possible makes a noticeable difference in your wedding flowers.
Quality
Local flowers are typically cut much closer to your wedding date. That means they arrive fresher, open more beautifully, and last longer throughout your day from ceremony to reception.
Cost
When flowers are in season and grown locally, they are often more cost effective. You’re not paying for long distance shipping or import costs, which allows more of your budget to go toward the actual design and overall look.
Sustainability
Imported flowers travel a long way before they reach your wedding. Local flowers reduce that travel, which is simply a better option when it’s available.
Supporting local growers
We love working with local flower farms. It supports small businesses in our community and often gives us access to more unique, specialty blooms that you won’t see everywhere.
Better design overall
This is the part most people don’t think about. When we use flowers that are in season and locally sourced, they naturally work better together. The colors, textures, and shapes all align in a way that feels effortless and elevated.
A Note for Our Brides
If you’re open to trusting what’s in season, it truly allows us to create something better for you.
It means higher quality flowers, a more intentional design, and an overall look that feels natural and elevated instead of forced.
You don’t need to know every flower or have it all figured out. That’s our job. We’ll guide you through what’s in season and help you create something that fits your vision while still making the most of what’s available.
Some of the most beautiful weddings come from leaning into what’s already growing.
With love from the garden,
Isabel
