Wedding Flowers 101: What to Know After You’ve Booked Bell's Flowers

Wedding Flowers 101: What to Know After You’ve Booked Bell's Flowers

First things first, we’re so glad you’re here, and even more excited to be designing the flowers for your wedding day.

Once a florist is booked, many couples wonder, “What happens next?” or “Do I need to know more about flowers?” The short answer: we’ve got you covered. That said, a little insight into the floral process can make planning smoother, more enjoyable, and even a bit magical.

Think of this as Wedding Flowers 101, designed especially for couples who have already taken the leap.

What Your Wedding Florist Really Does

Wedding florals are about much more than pretty arrangements. Behind the scenes, we’re:

  • Designing florals that complement your style, venue, and season

  • Sourcing the best blooms from trusted growers

  • Creating detailed floral “recipes” for each piece

  • Conditioning and prepping flowers so they’re at their absolute best

  • Managing timelines, logistics, and weather considerations

  • Delivering, installing, styling, and ensuring every detail feels intentional

Our goal is to make your wedding feel effortless and beautifully cohesive — even when you don’t see all the moving parts.

Wedding Flower Terms (Without the Overwhelm)

You don’t need to become a floral expert, but a few basics can be helpful:

  • Bridal bouquet – Your main bouquet, designed to stand out

  • Bridesmaid bouquets – Smaller, complementary versions

  • Boutonnières – Worn by the groom and key people

  • Corsages – Often for mothers, grandmothers, and special guests

  • Meadow markers – Garden-style pieces designed in no-show containers lining the aisle

  • Centerpieces – Low, elevated, or garden-style arrangements for tables

  • Installations – Larger statement designs like hanging florals or floral meadows

If something sounds confusing, that’s okay — translating ideas into flowers is part of our job.

Your Floral Vision

At your initial meeting, we create a clear design direction for your wedding, including:

  • A curated color palette

  • A Bloom Blueprint with possible floral selections (not guaranteed)

  • A mood board inspired by your imagery

  • A detailed proposal outlining each floral element

This vision guides everything moving forward while still allowing for natural, seasonal flexibility.

Timing & Communication

Once your proposal is approved, we’ll send over your official contract and invoice. A one-third retainer and signed contract officially secure your date with Bell’s Flowers.

You’re always welcome to reach out with questions or updates. We reconnect closer to your wedding date — typically 8–6 weeks prior — to review and finalize all remaining details. Final counts and the remaining balance are due 30 days before the wedding.

We’ll also check in the week of your wedding to confirm logistics before flowers are prepared for pickup or installed on site.

A Note on Seasonal Flowers & Design Flexibility

One of the most important things to understand about wedding flowers: Mother Nature leads the way.

While we always honor your color palette and overall aesthetic, we don’t design around exact flower varieties. Instead, we focus on the overall look, feel, and color story of your day. This allows us to create florals that feel organic, elevated, and truly garden-inspired.

Because we work with real flowers, natural variation is expected and celebrated. Flowers pull different shades and hues by nature. Even white blooms can lean ivory, cream, blush, or soft green. This variation is what gives garden-style designs depth, movement, and life.

Trusting the overall aesthetic rather than specific stems allows us to create something far more beautiful than anything overly controlled or artificial.

Where Flowers Make the Biggest Impact

If you’re considering adjustments or enhancements, these areas tend to make the strongest visual statement:

  • Ceremony designs — arches, pillars, and aisle florals

  • Sweetheart or head tables — a focal point throughout the evening

  • Statement installations — floral meadows, hanging pieces, or entry moments

  • Repurposing florals — moving ceremony pieces into the reception
(Meadow markers are perfect for this)

Garden-style florals shine when they feel abundant, intentional, and thoughtfully placed.

How to Prepare for Floral Conversations

To get the most out of our time together, it helps to:

  • Share inspiration that reflects vibe, not just exact flowers

  • Let us know what you love — and what you don’t

  • Focus on how you want your wedding to feel

  • Remember that perfection isn’t the goal — beauty and ease are

You don’t need to speak “florist language.” Just be you.

Trust the Process

One of the best things you can do once your florist is booked is to let go and enjoy the planning experience. We’re here to guide, design, problem-solve, and create something that feels like a natural extension of your day — romantic, elevated, and effortlessly beautiful.

Your flowers won’t just be beautiful.
They’ll tell a story.

And we can’t wait to bring yours to life.

From the garden, with love,
Isabel
